This article aims to investigate the advantages and applications of ODs in the learning process, including educational projects. To achieve the goal of our research, as well as to understand the specifics of online dictionaries for learning the Japanese language and culture, the following methods were employed: comparative analysis of pedagogical, methodological and specialized research literature on the usage of online translation tools in teaching; analysis of pedagogical experience of OD application for Japanese language teaching at higher educational institutions during the implementation of educational projects, including application of online dictionaries at the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv; synthesis and generalization of research materials aimed at understanding the main characteristics of ODs for teaching the Japanese language and literature; analysis of research results through surveys of students that participated in educational projects applying online dictionaries for the study of Japanese language and culture with emphasizing memory’s mediation and the dynamics of cross-cultural transmission, introduces by identified environmental and post humanist turns in the humanities of ХХІ century. Although most respondents acknowledge the advantages of online dictionaries for learning the Japanese language within educational projects, there are differences in utilization patterns, preferences, perceptions of their impact on language acquisition, exploration of memory paradigms and cultural distinctiveness. The obtained findings indicate the relevance of continuing further research on the utilization of ODs as specific archives of cultural memory and for improving the integration of cultural aspects into the toolkit of language learning projects for philology students.
